Super Bowl Commercials

As you all probably know who won the Super Bowl, let's discuss the main point of watching the Super Bowl... the commercials.

Darth Vader- This commercial begins with a kid in a Darth Vader suit trying to use "the force" on different objects in his house. However, when he reaches his dad's car, the dad uses the remote starter much to the startle of the kid who believes he just used "the force"

Doritos Grandpa- This commercial begins with a teenager who agrees to watch and clean up the house for his buddy. When he forgets to after 3 days, the teen decides to sprinkle Doritos's crumbs on everything including his friend's grandpa's ashes. The grandpa comes back to life much to the surprise of the friend.

Chevrolet Camaro- This commercial has a background commentary that explains what is going on in the commercial. The scene changes from being in a car chase to driving in the desert while there are different types of women driving it she turns out to be a teacher.

These are my favorites commercials from Super Bowl XLV, what are yours?

24

The best TV series ever! This show stars Kiefer Sutherland as a CTU agent that runs in real time for, obviously, 24 hours. This year was its last after 8 years strong. Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) is a CTU operative that protects the nation from various terrorist attacks including assassination plots, nuclear bombs, and a deadly virus. However, with this type of TV series, there are only so many story plots possible without it seeming like a repeat. Bauer and fellow CTU analyst, Khloe O'Brein are the only characters to appear in every season. If you are interested in a action movie, I suggest 24, which you can rent at Family Video. I promise you, this series will keep you up for many nights.

Mrs. Cross BEWARE

As the semester is running to a close, students begin to panic about their grade and wonder if they can raise it. So as the sophomores end their first semester with you and the juniors being told they can blog for extra credit, prepare for an onslaught of blogs. Blogging is an easy way to get extra credit and after today, we all know we need some. So Mrs. Cross, you clear off some space on your computer and get some extra sleep now, as you won't have time for sleeping very soon. You should start preparing for these blogs as you want us to be preparing for the AP test(s). As you have done to so many of us, now it is our turn as your students to make YOU lose sleep over your class. Mrs. Cross, you have been warned!

NCAA March Madness

Well it is official, the NCAA Basketball tournament will start tomorrow, while technically the play-in game has already been played but nobody cares about it. You may have noticed that around the school all of the guys have been filling out brackets and also some girls also. There may even be a couple of pools going on out there. The four number 1 seeds went to Kansas, who got the number one overall seed, Kentucky, Duke, and Syracuse. The Midwest bracket will be played in Saint Louis this year and that bracket could be very exciting with Kansas, Ohio State, Georgetown, Maryland, Michigan State, Tennessee, and Georgia Tech all in it. This is by far the hardest bracket to get out and you might just be better flipping a coin than trying to predict who will make it out of the bracket. The other brackets are to be played in Syracuse(east), Salt Lake City(west), and Houston(south). While I am typing this many people have it on a countdown for the first game and there might be a lot of people "sick" today and tomorrow. So before it is to late fill out a bracket and cheer for you favorite team.
P.S. Don't forget to cheer for the Illini in the NIT Tournament, Number 1 overall seed!

St. Anthony Basketball still going on

Everyone thinks that the basketball season is over--that is not the case. While the varsity's team ended when they lost a thriller to T-Town last Friday, the sophomore's season is still going on. When I tell people this, I usually get the response, "What? Why? That's stupid." I think I finally figured out why, too.

To my best knowledge, the sophomore team has never gone later in the season than the varsity team; but, this year that changed when Coach Palmer (KP) scheduled the team a tournament down in Murphysboro (just outside of Carbondale). Which brings out another question, "why so far away?" Well, this is the only sophomore tournament going on right now. The team currently has one win and one loss in the tournament and, since the 16-team tournament is double-elimination, we play again on Saturday at 11:30 against Breese Central. If we win then, we play for the consolation championship.

Last Saturday, we played Du Quion and lost to them by 9 despite having to leave by 7:15 in the morning and they even had their varsity center playing for them. On Monday (yes on Casmir Pulaski Day), we beat Nashville thanks to an 18-point game by Mitchell Dust and Stellar D in the first half (they scored only 2 points for the first 14 minutes of the game).

Since I mentioned the good parts of that game I must also admit that we let up 45 points in the second half and committed 10 turnovers that half too. So, if you have nothing better to do on Saturday and want to drive 2 hours to watch a basketball game, then come cheer on your sophomore basketball team down in Murphysboro.

BCS Matchups

Well, it is Alabama vs. Texas for the BCS Championship. Alabama clinched the appearance after they upset number 1 seeded Florida. Alabama beat Florida 32-13 in what turned out not to be a game at all. Florida after losing clinched a trip to the Sugar Bowl against an undefeated team, Cincinnati. Other key match-ups are Oregon vs. Ohio State after Oregon beat Oregon State, and TCU vs. Boise State in another Battle of the Unbeatens in the Fiesta Bowl. Those two teams were both denied the chance to play for the championship because of five undefeated teams this year. Georgia Tech plays Iowa for the last BCS bowl game in the Orange Bowl.

Sophomore Basketball

This year started out for a win for the sophomores when we defeated Charleston 66-30. We were led by Jared Having with 20 points. He just kept on shooting. Four other players had 8 or ten points. We are currently in two-a-days practicing at 6:00 in the morning with Coach Palmer and with the varsity after school. Tonight we have a big game at T-town which starts around 7:30 P.M. We expect a big crowd to be there and another big performance from Jared Having. Mitchell Dust claims he will dominate tonight. We beat T-town last year and expect to this year also.

Basketball Season

Basketball season is just around the corner again. The varsity team starts with the Turkey Tournament at St. Anthony next week. The team has been practicing very hard and are determined to win it this year after falling short last year. Our main competitor will be Breese Central, although, Effingham will also be a tough game. We play Effingham Friday night at 7:30. Hope everyone can make it! As of right now we have no official starting lineup and is bound to change a lot this season. While the varsity team is ready to try and make a run at state this year the JV and fresh/soph teams will also be ready. It is even rumored that the JV team might be able to play in the Turkey Tournament for Charleston bus drivers might go on strike and if that happens then they will have to drop out of the tournament leaving one spot open. If that happens let us hope we do not embarass ourselves to much. Hopefully the basketball team will have a strong Dawg pound again this year. GO DAWGS!!!

Soccer

The soccer team had a great team this year. We finished at five hundred this year(equal amounts of wins and losses) This is the first time this has happened since 2006, when our soccer team went to the Sweet 16 when my brother was on the team. We also won our first regional game since 2006. This year has been a great improvement from last year when we won only 2 games. Also, we were under a first year coach, Scott Demers. This has been a great year for us and let's keep on improving in the years to come. I would like to encourage anybody that is thinking about joining to go to one of our practices over the summer and see what it is like. Thanks Mrs. B for the candy, the whole team appreciates your support.
