Expanding on its aviator inspiration for fall 2011, 7 for All Mankind held a little soiree for media and stylists at the Sunset Tower hotel Wednesday evening, complete with large black and white photographs of Amelia Earhart posed proudly in her flight gear plastered onto the walls leading out to the hotel's terrace.
The Art Deco architecture of the West Hollywood hotel proved a perfect setting for the collection, which was inspired by the glamour of women pilots of the 1930s. The best items from the line include slouchy cargo-style pants with baggy flight pants pockets, called the Maggie after pilot Maggie Gee, high waist, dressy trousers called the Flight Pant and Aviator jackets in tencel and jacquard. To combat the tomboy look of the pants, they look best paired with heels and a feminine blouse, so that interesting mix of hard and soft comes through and the overall silhouette is sexy, not shlubby.
The denim brand made sure all the guests felt as inspired by the great female fliers as they were and gave everyone a parting gift –- a coffee table book called "Women Aviators: From Amelia Earhart to Sally Ride, Making History in Air and Space."
