Before Michael Jackson, there was EWF. They did funk, they did R&B, and they danced their asses off. Starting in the '60s and extending into the next four (!) decades, nobody outworked them on stage, as this clip from a 1990 concert in Japan shows.
I actually saw these guys in concert in San Francisco at a show headlined by Rod Stewart. Weirdest pairing ever. (Topped only by Jethro Tull and the Beach Boys one summer outside Washington, D.C. Seriously.)
