Cheerleading. A sport

A sport is defined as a physical activity governed by a set of rules (dictionary.com). Cheerleading takes more strength then you would think. Though Liz Wortman looks small... it takes everything we have to lift her in the air, hold her up there, and yell at the top of our lungs the words to different cheers. Cheerleading at St. Anthony High School also requires the ability to do a back handspring. It is also a goal that each cheerleader be able to perform a standing back tuck. During practice we drill and drill and drill tumbling and jumps. There are also certain state rules that we must obey. A basket toss is not allowed on the gym floor unless there is a mat. You wouldn't want anyone dropped on their head, or something like that..... There are many different ways a lift can be performed, but you have to watch for many things so the stunt is not illegal. Cheerleading is also a competitive sport judged by IHSA and ICCA. So YES(!!!!!) cheerleading is a sport. :)
