Sophie Hoffman is the winner of this week’s “Literary Connections” Award. This arbitrary[1] award is in honor of the connection she made between Guy Fawkes and Fawkes the Phoenix from the Harry Potter series. I can’t believe I didn’t draw the same conclusion—but, I’ve got to seriously admire the quick connection she made between these two figures (one historical and one literary).An allusion is a figure of speech that makes a reference to, or representation of, a place, event, literary work, myth, or work of art, either directly or by implication.
