Volleyball Sectionals

If you haven't been living under a rock these past couple days, you have probably heard about the volleyball team beating Newton for the regional championship! For those of you who weren't at the game, you missed out on an intense and thrilling match. It was probably the longest match I have ever played and consisted of long rallies and back to back side-outs. St. A won the first match 25-23, but Newton came back in game two to win 25-23. Game three was the deciding factor.

We St. A girls pulled out to a small lead in the beginning but Newton quickly pulled it together to get back in. Rallies went on forever, and I was afraid Mrs. B was going to have a heart attack sitting on the bench! What a thrill! The score was 24-25 and Newton had the ball. If they won this point, they would have won the match, but we won the point and the following also. This happened back and forth a couple times until St. Anthony had the ball with a score of 28-28 (for those of you who don't know, volleyball matches are a best of 3 games, each game played to 25 and you must win by 2).

So 28-28 and I was serving! This was the moment I had been waiting for. I had been in a similar situation my freshman year serving to keep the team in the NTC Championship game. Needless to say, I made both serves and we won the game (and the NTC game too!). The crowd went wild and the girls screamed and yelled and hugged each other! It was such a match. No one expected our team to beat Newton. They had beat us earlier in the season, so it was sweet revenge for us.

Our team has come so far this year. We have encountered many lineup changes and have really improved as a team. Volleyball is a team sport and requires everyone to know what everyone else is doing. It is not your typical P.E. volleyball. It is a true athletic sport. And if you disagree with me, and think you can beat the VB team, we'll take you on! (That means you... soccer team!) We'll just have to wait til after our season is over. Yes, we're still going.

Sectionals is tomorrow at Monticello! There is a fan bus, so ride along and cheer us on! We love the crowd and we love the DAWG POUND! So this is a shout out to my all-time favorite fans! We are nothing without you guys!
